Makdela Amba University

Makdela Amba University (MAU) was established in 2015 under Council of Ministers Regulation No. 355/2005, named after the historical site of Mekdela Amba, which honors Emperor Tewodros II. It aims to improve access and equity in higher education as part of Ethiopia's second Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP). The university is located 480 km from Addis Ababa and spans 340 hectares across two campuses: Tulu Awulia and Mekan Selam. Currently, MAU offers quality education, research, and community services, aspiring to be among Ethiopia's top three universities by 2025. It enrolls approximately 5,750 students across 28 departments within five colleges and employs 2,001 staff members. The university focuses on highland agriculture, mining, culture, tourism, and technology.
