Debre Tabor University

Debre Tabor University (DTU) is located in the historically significant town of Debre Tabor, at the foot of Mount Guna, known as the "water tower of Ethiopia." The town, believed to have been established during the reign of King Seifared in 1350 E.C., served as Ethiopia's capital in the 1950s under Emperor Tewodros II. DTU was established in 2008/2001 E.C. on 126 hectares of land, about 3 kilometers from the town center, and aims to enhance educational access in the region. Currently, DTU comprises five colleges (Health Sciences, Social Sciences and Humanities, Natural Sciences, Business and Economics, Agriculture and Environmental Sciences), one faculty (Technology), and two schools (Medical and Law). Initially serving 628 students, DTU has expanded its capacity to educate over 18,000 students across various programs. The university has established seven research centers to support local farmers and has received multiple accolades, including the Ethiopian Quality Award in 2022. It has also partnered with international organizations to enhance health services in the South Gondar Zone, contributing significantly to the region's development.
