Kotebe University of Education

Kotebe University of Education (KUE), formerly known as Kotebe Metropolitan University, is a prominent institution in Ethiopia with a history of nearly 65 years.

• Founding: Established in 1959 as a college of education within Haileselassie I University (HSIU).
• Relocation: In the 1970s, the college moved to the Addis Ababa Technical and Vocational College and was renamed the Addis Ababa College of Teacher Education.
• Current Name: In 1976, the institution relocated to Kotebe, adopting the name Kotebe College of Teacher Education (KCTE), which later evolved into Kotebe University of Education.

Historical Milestones:

• 1959: Established as a college of education at Haileselassie I University.
• 1976: Moved to Kotebe and renamed Kotebe College of Teacher Education (KCTE).
• 1989: Initiated degree programs across various fields.
• 2007: Reintroduced degree programs in 10 departments in collaboration with Bahir Dar University.
• 2014: Granted university college status by the Addis Ababa City Government.
• 2016: Elevated to Metropolitan University status, reorganizing into eight academic units.
• 2021: Transitioned to Kotebe University of Education, focusing on enhancing the quality of teacher education.

KUE aims to address the pressing need for specialized teacher training in Ethiopia, aligning with the Ethiopian Education Development Roadmap (2018-2030) to improve the quality of education nationwide.
