History & About Jimma University

Jimma University was founded in the 1980s through the amalgamation of the Jimma Institute of Health Science and the Jimma College of Agriculture. Both institutions had established themselves as leaders in their respective fields, and their merger aimed to create a multifaceted university that could better address the development needs of Ethiopia during a time of significant national challenges. Currently, Jimma University stands out as one of Ethiopia's premier public institutions, consistently recognized for its high educational standards and quality academic programs. It has developed into a vibrant hub for intellectual and academic activity, attracting a diverse range of thought leaders, educators, and innovators from across the country and beyond. As of now, Jimma University holds a world rank of 3118th, an African rank of 94th, and is the 4th ranked institution in Ethiopia.

Jimma university focuses on several key areas, including research, international collaboration, and the development of programs that tackle pressing national and global issues.
