History & About Adama Science and Technology University (ASTU)
Adama Science and Technology University (ASTU) was established in 1993 as Nazareth Technical College (NTC), focusing on degree and diploma education in technology fields. It was later renamed Nazareth College of Technical Teacher Education (NCTTE) to highlight its role in training technical teachers for vocational colleges across Ethiopia. In 2003, the institution expanded to include business education, addressing the need for qualified educators in vocational institutions.
- 1993: Established as Nazareth Technical College (NTC), focusing on technology education.
- 2000: Renamed Nazareth College of Technical Teacher Education (NCTTE) to emphasize training technical teachers for vocational colleges.
- 2003: Expanded to include business education programs.
- 2006: Inaugurated as Adama University, broadening its academic mission.
- 2008: Designated as a Center of Excellence in Technology by the Ministry of Education, leading to the introduction of applied engineering and technology programs.
- 2011: Renamed Adama Science and Technology University (ASTU) to reflect its expanded focus.
