History & About Debark University

Debark University (DKU) was established in 2007 EC and is situated in Debark Town, North Gondar Zone, approximately 834 km from Addis Ababa, 284 km from Bahir Dar, and 103 km from Gondar. Initially, the university began with 1,173 students across 4 colleges and 17 departments. Currently, it employs 314 academic staff and 900 administrative staff, serving 4,012 students spread across 7 colleges and 24 departments. The university aims to excel in highland agriculture and tourism, leveraging its advantageous location near Simien Mountain National Park, which attracts many tourists. Additionally, the rich cultural heritage in the surrounding area supports its focus on tourism development.
