Bonga University

Bonga University is a fourth generation public higher education institution in Ethiopia, established in 2015 under Proclamation No. 349/2015 by the Council of Ministers of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. The university aims to contribute to local, national, and global development through effective academic, research, and community engagement programs.

Location

• Main Campus: Bonga town, the capital of the Kaffa zone.
• Region: Southwest Ethiopia Peoples Region.
• Distance from Addis Ababa: Approximately 460 km.

Initial Status

At the commencement of its academic programs, Bonga University admitted 1,500 students across 14 regular undergraduate programs. Currently, Bonga University currently consists of 5 colleges, expanding its academic offerings and enrollment capacity to meet educational demands.

Objectives

The primary objectives of Bonga University include:

• Graduate Development: Producing knowledgeable, skilled, and internationally competent graduates with a balance of demand-based disciplines.
• Research Focus: Promoting demand-driven research that emphasizes technology transfer in line with national priorities.
• Research Dissemination: Ensuring the development and dissemination of research outputs through publications, seminars, workshops, and public lectures.
• Community Engagement: Designing and providing community and consultancy services to address local and national developmental needs.

• Bonga University aspires to be the first among the leading higher education institutions of Africa in Natural Resource management and utilization by 2030.
