History & About Wellega University

Wollega University was established in February 2007 with an initial enrollment of 851 students across 17 departments in four faculties: Business and Economics, Education, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences. The university is located near Nekemte town, 310 km west of Addis Ababa, and has expanded to include Gimbi Campus, opened in January 2009, and Shambu Campus, opened in 2010.

Currently, Wollega University now offers 54 academic programs, including 82 undergraduate, 45 graduate, and 5 PhD programs, while employing innovative teaching methods and actively contributing to Ethiopia's development through research and community service. Also Wellega University has 6 colleges, 3 faculties, 2 institutes, and 5 schools dedicated to various fields of study.
