Wolaita Sodo University

Wolaita Sodo University (WSU), established in 2007 as a second-generation university in Ethiopia, focuses on teaching, research, and community service. It began with an enrollment of 801 students across 16 departments and has since expanded its offerings and facilities to provide quality education and promote interdisciplinary research.

• Growth: The university currently serves approximately 38,565 students, including undergraduates and postgraduates, across three campuses: Gandaba, Otona, and Tercha.
• Programs: WSU offers a range of undergraduate and graduate programs, along with specializations in health sciences, with increasing enrollment projected to exceed 40,000 by 2024.
• Research and Community Engagement: The university has established seven research centers and hosted multiple conferences aimed at fostering sustainable socio-economic development.

• Establishment: Began in 1920 as a small clinic
• Hospital Evolution:Upgraded to a primary hospital (50 years)
• Became a general hospital (30 years)
• Amalgamated with Wolaita Sodo University in 2009
• Promoted to a comprehensive specialized hospital in 2021
• Academic Staff: Approximately 450
