Bule Hora University

Background and Establishment

Bule Hora University (BHU) was established to enhance the quality of education, research, and community services in Ethiopia. Located 470 km south of Addis Ababa in the Oromia Regional State, it was founded to address the limitations of higher education in the country, particularly its low coverage and relevance to national needs. The university aims to connect cultural and natural resource development with technology and its applications.

Current Status

Since its inception in 2011/12, when it began as Bule Hora College of Teacher Education with 359 students, BHU has rapidly expanded. It now comprises over 98 departments, 76 postgraduate programs, 7 colleges, a School of Law, and 2 institutes. The student population has grown to over 16,000, supported by a diverse academic staff of 1,037 and 2,714 administrative staff members. BHU has identified key areas of excellence, including mining and animal production, aspiring to be a leading public higher education institution in Ethiopia by 2025 E.C.

Mission

• Trough Enhancement of scientific culture and system, producing a citizen shaped by Knowledge, skills and good ethics; who is also entrepreneur, patriotic, trained, competent, striving, and competitive. Transferring technologies and provision of community services by carrying out multi-disciplinary research and investigations.
