The Ethiopian Grade 10 Old Curriculum Biology contains 5 units:
- Unit 1: Biotechnology
- Unit 2: Heredity
- Unit 3: Human Biology and Health
- Unit 4: Food Making and Growth in Plants
- Unit 5: Conservation of Natural Resources
Unit 1: Biotechnology
Students will learn the definition, significance, and applications of biotechnology. Covers traditional uses in bread, yoghurt, cheese, and beer, as well as modern applications in agriculture, medicine, food, and energy production.
Unit 2: Heredity
Students will study heredity, chromosomes, DNA, genes, mitosis, meiosis, Mendelian inheritance, and breeding techniques for plants and animals. Explains selective breeding and cross-breeding.
Unit 3: Human Biology and Health
Covers the human nervous system, sense organs, endocrine glands, and reproductive health. Students will understand reflexes, action potentials, hormones, HIV/AIDS, and life skills for maintaining health.
Unit 4: Food Making and Growth in Plants
Students will learn about leaf structure, photosynthesis, water and mineral transport, plant hormones, tropisms, and factors affecting plant growth. Includes practical experiments.
Unit 5: Conservation of Natural Resources
Covers the types of natural resources, biodiversity, vegetation, wildlife, air pollution, and global warming. Students will learn methods of conservation, including Ethiopia’s endemic species and National Parks.
