Addis International Bank S.C. (AdIB) was established in 2011, officially commencing operations on May 30 of that year after receiving its license from the National Bank of Ethiopia on January 31. As the 14th private commercial bank in Ethiopia, AdIB was founded with a vision of innovation and inclusivity, embodied in its name, "Addis," which signifies both new ideas and the capital city of Ethiopia.

The bank was created by a diverse group of shareholders, including cooperatives, microfinance institutions, and individual citizens, with a strong emphasis on serving low and middle-income populations. By addressing the financial needs of the "unbanked," AdIB aims to empower underserved communities throughout the country.

With a commitment to expanding access to banking services, AdIB has plans to open new branches in market areas both within and beyond Addis Ababa.
